If I Call it a Book—SDBA Showcase

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” –Thomas Merton

Going to Morocco this past spring was a truly life changing experience, that I’m only just now starting to put into words. My artwork, as always, has allowed me to process and interpret what is going on both inside and outside myself. Some of my most recent creations have taken on a look and feel that is very different from my previous work.

You can check out two of these pieces, which will be showcased at the San Diego Book Arts exhibition.

“If I Call it a Book”
Opening Reception: Thursday, November 10, 2016, 5-7 pm
November 7-December 14, 2016
The Rose Art Gallery at Francis Parker School
6501 Linda Vista Rd, San Diego, CA 92111
Monday-Friday 8am-3pm

These pieces show my creative and personal journey while in Morocco and upon my return. The first, a book entitled “Tetouan Encounters,” was created in February as a record of that place in that specific time. I used the patterns and textures that are part of the intricate fabric of Morocco’s culture. This project represents life, both its beauty and ugliness.

“Moroccan Flashbacks,” a framed collection of postcards, was completed in July and is a series of snapshots of my stories and adventures while in Morocco, on my most recent excursion and over the years. This piece is also indicative of the collaborative and influential nature of my Artist Residency because fellow artist Juliana Coles was a major inspiration!

I can’t wait to hear what you think of my new creations…
