There’s busy and there’s too busy!
I love being busy, I do. Always have, and probably always will. But as I’ve gotten older the busy has gotten worse as my interests have broadened. And there comes a time when you have to say ENOUGH!
My question is (and it’s the one that always trips me up): What do I say no to? What do I keep and what do I toss? This is so difficult because, as I said, I like being busy. I love learning new stuff. I love going new places. I love discovery!!!
When I get a little nuts, I just turn the music up and get out my art journal. Making art is a process, and it forces me in the most delicious way to SLOW DOWN! When my frustration shows up I just face it and laugh, because I can’t move any faster… I really can’t and there is only so much I can do.
When I stand back from my work, I often realize four hours have passed. Four hours I could have been doing the laundry, discovering a new place or hanging out with friends. Something is different though, because I feel tired, but in a GOOD way. My mind is relaxed, my body is buzzing and I now have energy for other things. Basically I am revived. Whatever was bugging me before I started the process is forgotten.
Now you understand one of the reasons I do it—it’s really a blessing!
If you want to discover how… join me in one of my workshops (for newbies and veteran journalers alike) at Art Lounge in Encinitas.
Oh and by the way… when I say I like busy, I realize not only does that refer to how I spend my time… but also, how I fill my pages. 🙂
