Sometimes days go by and I haven’t had the time to sit down to make something. I feel bad, guilty and wonder why. Especially after I clear the workspace and start on a project, image or journal page. Because once I start, and push past the resistance, and discomfort of having been away for image making, I find myself in the zone, and after all, that’s what this is all about… THE ZONE. Don’t get me wrong, I like to create things I love, and sometimes even things I think others will appreciate, but mostly it’s the act of creating that has me hooked.
A good friend took up the piano in her fifties, and she practices every day. She said it relaxes her and makes her feel good; she likes that she can play a few songs, but she’s not looking to become a musician. She just does it for herself. That’s a great place to be… practicing for the joy of it.
So today, that’s what I did. And that’s what art journaling is for me, practicing for the pure pleasure of it.
If you happen to like what I did, and like looking at the spread, great (and feel free to let me know)… but for me the real pleasure came in the creation, not in the anticipation of what others would think or say. It’s my hope that all creators, and anyone for that matter, can get to this mindset.
Happy creating!
Love it. This would be beautiful as a large print.
