I love Ira Glass. I can remember the first time I heard Ira’s voice on This American Life (for those of you who don’t know who he is… he hosts This American Life out of Chicago). I can remember the show (although not the title)… and the story about a guy who raised bugs in his apartment, which he sold to pet stores specializing in reptiles. I was glued to the radio. The show never disappoints although some are more “fascinating” than others. He knows his stuff… and so I can call him a “trusted source”.
His pearl of wisdom is this: if you are in any of the arts… writing, painting, photography… it doesn’t matter… you have a level of taste and can tell what is good. However, when you are starting out, you “have to go through” a phase, in which you will not be satisfied with the result. But eventually from doing it repeatedly, it will match your vision.
You’ll want to give up, he says… don’t. Keep at it. Watch the video… The Gap.
